About The College of International Relations

The College of International Relations (C.I.R.) of Nihon University, located in Mishima City, Shizuoka Prefecture, is one of the Colleges of Nihon University, The College offers students various academic fields to major in, all under the study of international affairs. Meeting the needs of the times, students will be able to study international affairs on the basis of international perspectives and foreign language learning and also through interdisciplinary education.

Educational Objectives of the C.I.R.

The educational objectives of the C.I.R. are to implement the institutional educational philosophy of “Self-Independence and Creativity” and to foster students who are equipped with a problem-solving repertoire, policy capacity, and communicative competence, and also who can be active in international exchange and various arenas in the global community.

Departments of the College of International Relations

C.I.R. was established in 1979 as Japan's first four-year college dedicated to the study of international relations. The College today comprises two departments, the Department of International Studies with programs in international business, international relations, and international cooperation, and the Department of International Liberal Arts with programs in cultural studies and communication. The Graduate School of International Relations offers masters and doctoral programs in international relations.

There are approximately 3,000 university students and 360 junior college students on an active and supportive campus.

Accreditation

Academic Programs

C.I.R., together with other colleges, graduate schools, and junior colleges of Nihon University, is fully accredited by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.

C.I.R., the first college of its kind in Japan, embraces two departments: the Department of International Studies and the Department of International Liberal Arts. Both have been contributing greatly to cultivate internationally-minded students by offering a large number of courses in international studies, student-exchange programs, overseas study trips to countries and regions of academic interest, and faculty-exchange programs, etc.
